Winery Description
Geographical location
Domaine de Maouries is located in l’Arbarthet on a beautiful vineyard of 25 hectares that stretches out over very stony hills, fully facing the south.
History
For over a century (1907) the Duffaut family has cultivated this Estate that today unites two generations of parents and children working in the vineyard with passion and respect for the earth.
The vineyard
Three Appellations are produced in Domaine des Maouries: Madiran, Pacherenc, and Cotes de Saint Amont. Their red wines have a strong personality. Made from 100% Tannat, Madiran is a virile wine that makes perfect use of the terroir.
When it is blended with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wines are toned a little, but are in no way degraded.
Regarding the production of the whites, they are crafted from a old varietals with strange names like Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Courbu and Arrufiac, making for very original wines such as Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec or Moelleux, a sweet-tasting cousin of Jurançon which King Henry IV loved so much.
