Cotes du Roussillon Village
The Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellation is located on the northern border of Roussillon, where some of the best granitic and calcareous soils are located.Only 32 villages are allowed this appellation with production constraints limited to roughly 45hL/ha of red wine made primarily from southern varietals such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan.
These wines are characteristically robust, full-bodied, and modestly complex, and have a dark color. Their aromas of dark fruits and spices evolve into notes of leather, game and candied prunes. They have a distinguishing tannic structure and they have an excellent cellaring potential.
Four villages are allowed to add the name of their commune to the appellation: Caramany, Latour de France, Lesquerde and Tautavel.
Dominant varietals: Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah
