Madiran
At the heart of a heavenly countryside, with views of the Pyrenees in the distance, the Madiran vineyards grow on the hills with a graded oceanic climate, 100 km from the coast.
Rainy winters and springtimes characterized by light showers allow the vines to grow quite nicely. This is followed by hot summer and fall seasons that are sunny and dry, which favor the ripening of the grapes.
Producing exclusively red wines, Madiran showcases its prized varietal, Tannat, whose name immediately brings to mind its tannic strength. But Cabernet Franc, and to a lesser extent Cabernet sauvignon and Fer Servadou, also fit into this category.
Due to its tannic strength, Madiran must be aged for a year before the AOC can be claimed. It is a red wine that is robust, solid and aromatic (dark berries, spice and torrefaction).
Dominant varietals: Cabernet Franc and Tannat
